Stamford Police Department and Beacon Communities Celebrate Grand Opening of the Police Activities League (PAL) at The Chester Addison Community Center in Stamford

The PAL is located on the property of Beacon Communities’ Southwood Square Apartments

Stamford, CT — The Stamford Police Department and Beacon Communities marked the grand opening of the Police Activities League (PAL) at the Chester Addison Community Center on Saturday, celebrating not only the new PAL, but also the reopening of the community center, which has been closed since the start of the pandemic.

“We view this center as an opportunity to continue our commitment to the betterment of this community,” said Stamford’s Assistant Chief of Police, Silas Redd, Sr. “It is a great way for our department to build upon the partnerships and relationships we already have within this community and provide a safe space for the young people in our community.”

With new support, the Chester Addison Community Center will once again be a hub of engaging activities and enriching programming for the community. It will host a variety of opportunities in areas including wellness, athletics, music, and the arts. In addition, the Ferguson Library will open a satellite branch on-site, and the Stamford Public Education Foundation (SPEF) will provide mentoring, tutoring, educational resources, and a computer learning center alongside an after-school program. Future plans include the creation of a fitness center and a commercial kitchen complete with healthy cooking classes.

“Having reviewed Waterbury Police Department’s Police Activities League, I approached Stamford’s Police Chief Timothy Shaw, and through a year and half of education, we launched Stamford’s PAL,” explained John Elliott, Regional Vice President of Property Management at Beacon Communities. “With support from local officials and State Senator Pat Miller, who grew up in Southwood Square, we at Beacon are thrilled to celebrate this exciting new PAL and the reopening of an excellent community resource.”

The Chester Addison Community Center is located on the property of Southwood Square Apartments, managed by Beacon Communities. The mixed-income development of 315 units is home to 160 low-income families and individuals, with the remaining apartments leased at market rate.
